The Method
Two decisions, four outcomes.
Most time management starts with the calendar. This starts one step earlier, with the question of what should have been on it.
Everything on your plate goes through two questions, in this order.
Does it stay?
Some of what you are carrying does not need to exist. Not delegated, not scheduled, not optimized. Deleted.
This is the decision people skip, because deleting something feels like admitting it was never important, and you have spent years being the person who takes things seriously.
- Do.
- It stays, which means somebody has to carry it.
- Delete.
- It goes. Nobody picks it up.
Is it yours?
What stays still has to be carried by someone. The question is whether that someone is you, and the honest answer is often no.
Handing something off is not the same as mentioning it. A handoff is an instruction specific enough that the person receiving it can act without coming back to you.
- Delegate.
- Someone else carries it, with an instruction rather than a hint.
- Defend.
- It is yours and it matters, so it gets protected room rather than whatever is left at the end of the day.
Where AI comes in
Automation is very good at doing things faster. It is not good at telling you which things should exist.
Hand a tool your unexamined list and you get an unexamined list, executed efficiently. Decide first. Then hand it off, to a person or a machine, with an instruction clear enough that it can actually be followed.
That is the whole role AI plays here. It carries what you have already decided is not yours.
Written, not thought.
You have thought about this. Thinking about it is how it stays exactly as it is.
Writing it down does something thinking cannot. It makes the list finite. It shows you the size of what you are actually holding, which is almost always smaller and stranger than it feels at four in the morning.
Do. Delete. Delegate. Defend. That is the whole method. It is not complicated. It is just rarely written down, and nothing that stays unwritten ever gets decided.
The tool walks you through both questions for one thing you are carrying right now.
